Overview

GAMSAT stands for Graduate Medical School Admissions Test, which was formerly known as Graduate Australian Medical School Admissions Test. It is a computer-based test for candidates willing to study postgraduate courses in medicine, optometry, dentistry, pharmacy and veterinary sciences at Australian, British, and Irish universities. The GAMSAT uses a marking system, which is acknowledged as item response theory. It assesses the capacity to undertake high-level intellectual studies to attain academic success. The Australian Council for Educational Research conducts this exam twice a year.    

Registration

Candidates willing to pursue postgraduate medicine and allied healthcare courses need to register themselves on the official website of GAMSAT. By following onscreen instructions, candidates can register themselves for the March and September Exams, which registration starts in January and July of the admission year. As an aspiring postgraduate medical/veterinary student, you need to regularly visit the official website and take the requisite action for registration and other purposes for studying in Australian medical colleges/universities.

Exam Pattern

The GAMSAT lasts for 5 hours and 25 minutes with a break or in two sittings. Candidates have to write two essays for assessing their written communication. Further, they need to answer 75 MCQs from physical and biological sciences and 62 MCQs from humanities and social sciences.
