Overview

NExT stands for the National Exit Test is a proposed exam for all undergraduate healthcare courses like MBBS, BHMS, BAMS, BSMS, and BUMS. It will be a compulsory test to get a licence to start medical practice in India or study postgraduate medical courses in India or abroad. In addition, it is expected to replace the existing NEET PG and FMGE exams in future. All India Institutes of Medical Sciences, AIIMS New Delhi, is going to conduct this licensing cum admission test from August 2025 or 2026. As a postgraduate medical student or candidate with an MBBS degree, you need to stay in touch with the official website of the National Medical Commission (NMC)   

Registration

As per the available information on the NMC website, AIIMS Delhi will conduct the NExT exam. The exam is in the proposal status, but not active. However, its registration process will start in February to May if there is an implementation in this regard. Exam Pattern

As per expectations and the NMC website information, the NExT exam will be held in two steps – Step 1 and Step 2. The Step 1 will be theoretical while the Step 2 will be practical or internship exams. It will have 540 multiple choice questions from the 19 subjects taught at undergraduate medical programs like MBBS, BAMS, and BHMS.
